On Wednesday, Antonio Lopez-Bautista, 18, pleaded not guilty in a Saratoga County courtroom
to a string of charges stemming from an attack on an elderly woman in May.
On May 19, police in Saratoga Springs arrested Lopez-Bautista, after he allegedly pulled a 67-year-old woman from her car and attempted to rape her. The attack occurred just before 4 a.m. as the victim sat waiting for husband.
Lopez-Bautista walked up behind the woman’s vehicle parked near the intersection of Congress and South Franklin Streets, opened the door and dragged her into a dark area. All the while, punching and kicking the woman, according to police.
Someone heard the woman’s cries for help and called 911.
By the time police arrived, the assailant was gone, but following a brief search, officers found the suspect hiding under some bushes.
The victim suffered cuts and bruises to her arms, face and neck. She was transported to Saratoga Hospital for treatment and later released.
Lopez-Bautista is in the country illegally and is currently being held at the Saratoga County Jail on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer.
